I am a self-taught contemporary artist based in Bedfordshire, England. I have always had a passion for art. From an early age, I was constantly drawing in sketchbooks. I began my artistic journey with graphite pencils, transitioned to coloured pencils, and now I explore oil, acrylic paints, and textured pastes. I’m always excited to try and experiment with new materials and techniques. Painting holds a special significance to me, serving not only as a passion but also as an escape during challenging times since having a life-changing injury.
I find inspiration from faces, as I love to capture a key moment, mood, or emotion. Over the years, my style has slowly developed into a combination of realism and abstract art, which creates an interesting and unique mix. I really enjoy the process, from the freedom of abstracts against the detail and challenge of realism.
A distinctive part of my paintings is the obscuring of facial features, symbolising the inner struggles, emotions, or life stories that others may keep hidden. This technique reflects my personal experiences with sometimes masking my own feelings during challenges in my life. It conveys a message of overcoming struggles and recognising inner strength. The artwork also reflects society’s pressures to present a perfect image, highlighting the contrast between the smooth oil surfaces of the paintings and the textured elements that represent the imperfections and complexities of life. I hope when others view my works they feel inspired to embrace their uniqueness and true selves.
